Speaking of Heidi, she says thanks for your continued thoughts and get-well wishes as she continues to recover from her car accident a few weeks ago. She may be facing neck surgery and still needs help at the computer and desk, so her responses to you may take a bit longer than usual. Thanks for your patience. She says she hopes to be at the Hill party and celebrate the start of WHNPA’s 90th Anniversary year!

Cal Marlin died on November 9th in the morning at the Cottage hospital here
in Santa Barbara after being ill for about 18 months. Up to the end he was
in wonderful spirits and really enjoyed his 24 hour caregivers, who he
called his ‘ladies’.
The services will be at 10:00am on November 19th at the Santa Barbara
cemetery with a reception following at the Café del Sol which is very close
to the cemetery. Cal ate lunch at the Café del Sol everyday for years.

Santa Barbara,93121.The Community kitchen is an organization that feeds the
poor and the homeless in Santa Barbara, CA
Cal Marlin passed away recently at the age of 80. Some remembrances from his friends are posted on the WHNPA’s web site in the ” in memoriam ” section. “Cal was an old school news cameraman, a film guy, a no-nonsense, pugnacious,irascible, sometime belligerent, sometime charmer who could always bully or sweet talk his way into position to get the shot.” (READ MORE)

Both Larry Downing and Jason Reed are Reuters Senior Photographers assigned to coverage of the White House in Washington. Larry has worked as a news photographer in Washington for 33 years, covering both politics and news; while Australian-born Jason moved to Washington seven years ago, having worked across Asia with Reuters for 13 years. This multimedia project is a continuation of Larry’s 2009 story about Section 60 inside Arlington National Cemetery… this time focusing on wounded combat veterans. This project set out to bring life to the stories of returning U.S. combat servicemen and women for Veteran’s Day on November 11th. …
