SPRING IN FOCUS - CHERRY BLOSSOM & SPIRIT OF DC PHOTO CONTESTS HIGHLIGHTED AT PEPCO EDISON PLACE GALLERY

Gain exposure, premium exhibition opportunity and win prizes this spring
Washington, DC [March 13, 2013]— FotoDC, with support from partners, Destination DC and Pepco Edison Place Gallery, continues to celebrate the brilliance and essence of springtime in Washington with the third annual Cherry Blossom Photo Contest and the introduction of its Spirit of DC Photo Contest. Both contests, underway now, seek exceptional photography during the annual transformation that graces DC year after year, in exchange for cash prizes for winners, online exposure and various mediums of exhibitions for winners and favorites.

The Cherry Blossom Photo Contest seeks imagery directly connected to the cherry blossom celebrations, festivities, landscapes, parades - whether day or night, rain or shine. With a broader reach, the Spirit of DC Photo Contest awards photography, on and off the Mall, that captures the spirit of our city. ”This year we have two exciting contests that challenge photographers to capture Washington with a unique and creative approach” says Theo Adamstein, Executive Director and Founder.

New exposure opportunities are now available for this year’s photo contest entrants! A selection of favorite 2013 entries and 2012 winners and a group cherry blossom exhibition by local photographers Ron Blunt, Randy Santos and Robert Epstein, will be featured at Cherry Blossom Central at the Pepco Edison Place Gallery (702 8th Street, NW) opening on April 4. Cherry Blossom Central will be open Tuesday through Friday, from 12pm - 4pm and Saturdays 11am - 4pm, through April 26.

Both photo contests run through midnight on April 18 with an “early bird” submission deadline of March 17. Current work and images taken in previous years are eligible. Images created via any form of photography will be considered (digital, mobile phone, film and alternative processes), but must be submitted electronically at www.Fotodc.org.

Each category will have first, second, and third place winners, receiving cash prizes of $500, $250, and $150 respectively. Supplementary prizes in the form of flash drives, generously donated by sponsor, USB Memory Direct.com, will be awarded at the judges’ discretion for honorable mentions and “favorites”. A distinguished panel of judges will select the outstanding work. The panel includes: Gina Martin of National Geographic, Carolyn Russo of the Smithsonian, Christopher Addison of Addison Ripley Gallery and photographer/author Frank Van Riper. Details and entry rules for the contest can be found at www.FotoDC.org. Images entered in the Spirit of DC Photo Contest may be used by Destination DC, the official convention and tourism office for Washington, DC to promote visitation.
