Stuart Knight, Director of US Secret Service 1973-1981
A WWII veteran wounded in action, he was awarded two purple hearts, a bronze
star, and a silver star for gallantry in action. He was a career Secret
Service agent, and served as the Director from 1973 through 1981 under
Presidents Nixon, Ford, Carter, and Reagan. He also served as the Vice
President of Interpol, based at the time in St. Cloud, France. He is
preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Betty Cooley Knight; and is
survived by his children,Suzanne, Bill, Bob, John and Barbara; and
grandchildren Jacquelyn and Zachary Powell.
Visitation is scheduled for 2 - 4 p.m. and 6 - 8 p.m., Sunday, September 13,
at Murphy Funeral Home, 1102 W. Broad Street (Route 7), Falls Church, VA. A
funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, September 14, at Saint
Dunstan’s Episcopal Church, 1830 Kirby Road, McLean, VA, followed by a
reception with the family in the Parish Hall. The family suggests that, in
lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Salvation Army or to your favorite
charity.
