Tips and Tricks
Dfx can give you limitless creativity. Wouldn’t it be great if you can share it ?
This Month’s Tip- creating and sharing a Dfx set up file and EZ Mask.
Start with your image and begin your workflow. Dfx works in layers, similar to Photoshop. Perhaps you want to have your model to have a soft diffusion, choose your soft diffusion filter in current layer 1. In layer number 2- you decide to mask the model and isolate her out of the background, you can use one of our masking tools, in this case we used EZ mask because it is so easy ! (see tutorial on masking and EZ mask- http://www.tiffensoftware.com/tutorials) create the mask and then invert it. So now you are working on the background. We chose a light modifier effect ( we used gobo ) that now goes onto the back ground. Wow… and with the mask on , it appears behind th e subject !! The next step, now in layer 3, drag and drop the mask you created ( no need to create a new one !!) from layer 2 into this new layer, put a gel filter on the back ground, we used a deep blue. Viola’ you have created something special !! Taking a look at the interface, in the 3 layers …you have a 3 filters and 2 masks. Go to menu bar, click on file> save set up – name the .dfx file and save. The .dfx file is your Dfx digital recipe file !
Use this recipe to accompany your image and send to your colleagues or friends that have Dfx v3 Photo plug-in or Standalone. Now you can share your recipe. The recipient of the .dfx file can now simply replicate all your steps in their Dfx, once they open the image and go to file> open set up and bring the .dfx file in. Now that everything is in, it can be edited further if desired. We will have more to tell you about set up files and how they can be used in our Apps and our video /film plug in… stay tuned for next time !
