NOTE FROM THE WHNPA PRESIDENT
President’s Memo:Two items at the February WHNPA meeting deserve your consideration:
The new business section of our meeting brought up a number of items that WHNPA should address: Freedom of the Press issues, White House handling of photo-sessions, an abundance of new rules at the White House, DC press pass problems and other issues. Our members thought that the best way to address these issues was to form a committee of members who are interested in these issues and who have the skills needed to represent WHNPA on these issues. It was agreed that the committee would be named the advocacy Committee. Of course, E board members would be an important part of this committee so the committee and WHNPA would be speaking with one voice. If you would like to be part of this committee, please email: dennis@whnpa.org
The ability of WHNPA to give back to the Washington Community was the other topic discussed in the new business portion of our meeting. There are two areas that we are focusing on.
1. Bernie Boston’s first interest in photography came from his joining a group named “Lens Friends”. A WHNPA project to start a group like this in Bernie’s name would be a fitting memorial to Bernie. Please contact dennis@whnpa.org if you want to work on this project.
2. The WHNPA can work with a DC high school to publish a school newspaper and website. We would assist students in photography, editing, and layout of their newspaper and website. Please contact dennis@whnpa.org if you want to work on this project.
