Cancer Picture Story on Reporter Deborah Charles

Cancer Picture Story on Reporter Deborah Charles

Last November one of my colleagues at Reuters, Debbie Charles, a Reuters correspondent for over 15 years both in the USA and overseas, was diagnosed with breast cancer, a disease that killed both her mother and her grandmother. Some of you have worked alongside Debbie at Reuters and know her. Others will know her from the presidential campaign trail or her time as a Reuters reporter at the White House or Justice Department. Long before this story came about I have always (along with alot of other photographers) thought of Debbie as one of my favorite reporters.

After six months of surgery, drugs and chemotherapy, Debbie was awesome about recently letting me into her life for a couple of weeks to assist in telling her story to the world with pictures, audio slideshows and four articles by Debbie herself on Reuters.com and the Reuters wire.

The stories in the package and the two audio slideshows can be found at :

There are two audio slideshows with pictures that I shot of Deborah over the past couple of weeks, at the hospital, at home with her husband Todd, at doctors appointments, treatments, exercising, etc……..

One is on “Living with Cancer ” and can be found at the above page or directly right here:

The other one is on Cancer Discovery, Diagnosis and Treatment and can also found at the above page or directly right here:

With all the places I have gone and all the stories that I have covered all over the world in the past 25 years this is by far one of the most intense and gratifying ones I have ever had the priviledge to be involved in working on.

It was a great project to work on and we are all hoping that it will really raise awareness and help people. Feel free to pass these links along to anyone at all that you think might be interested.=20

Regards,

Jim
